Who are The Cambridge 3?

Lesley Birch, Karen Stamper and Clare Maria Wood met in Cambridge over ten years ago through their shared passion for art. When Lesley moved to York five years later they began ‘The Cambridge 3’ collective, creating a succession of shared works by sending paintings through the post to one other, each responding to the piece they received, and then posting it on to the next one in the group.

Although they continued to work on their own projects as well, in May 2016 they saw an opportunity to work together again, embarking upon an artist residency at Brisons Veor Trust, next to Priest’s Cove, Cape Cornwall.  Much drawing, sketching and plein air painting was created as well as indoor studio painting.

COAST - Our First Cambridge 3 Exhibition

A year after our residency at Brisons Veor, Cornwall  we launched the  first of our Cambridge 3 exhibitions.  'COAST' at The Crypt Gallery, St Ives, Cornwall, showcased paintings, prints and collages in response to our creative residency.

A huge thank you to all of our visitors who travelled from miles around to come and see COAST.  We had a wonderful time meeting artists, students, social media friends, locals, cats, dogs and especially the tiny artists who loved the 'painting table'. We had over 1500 visitors, made many sales and lots of new friends. sketching, chatting, laughing and sharing stories. We had lots of wonderful comments in our visitors' book from you all.

We would especially like to thank to John, Jason, April, Peter and all at  St Ives Society of Artists for their help and support throughout the exhibition.

We are now looking for an exhibition space in Cambridge. This is where we originally met and painted together. Anyone know of a good central space???

You can see many more images and films of the exhibition on our facebook  page

Our prize draw, one of our first collaborative paintings dating back about 10 years, was won by a lovely visitor from Northampton. If you would like to see more from this collaboration see our page here
